Is a WoW Browser Safe?
Split the word into three risks. wowbrowse is malware that hijacks the browser. A private server can disappear and take the character with it. A login page that asks for your Battle.net password is the wrong site, because the browser realms use their own accounts. Cloud streams are the exception: they do sign into Battle.net, inside the cloud service.

The hijacker and the fake installer
PCRisk's removal guide, dated 2021-07-29, describes wowbrowse as a potentially unwanted program that forces tailsearch.com and can read homepage, new-tab, and search settings. The spelling is one word. It is not Keldurn and it is not the 2015 Android app named Wow Browser. If a download offers a browser WoW installer you did not open from the project domain, do not run it.
Hordes of Azeroth's desktop launcher is unsigned and can trip SmartScreen. The write-ups say each release publishes a SHA-256 checksum. Prefer the browser projects, which do not ask you to run an exe. A browser tab still runs code the site sends, so a checksum does not make a realm permanent.
Passwords and realms that close
Keldurn's page says it does not ask for a Battle.net password. Last Havens tells you to use a password you do not reuse. An independent arena comparison says the same for the arena projects. GeForce NOW and Shadow do need your Battle.net login, because they launch Blizzard's client. Type that password only on Blizzard or inside the cloud session, not on a realm's register form.
Private servers close. PCGamesN reported Stormforge shutting down after pressure from Blizzard. Wowhead reported Project Ascension announcing a shutdown on 2026-08-28. I use those two closures as the evidence that a character on someone else's realm can vanish. I do not quote a Blizzard legal policy I have not read. Warmane and Whitemane are desktop private servers in the comparison table for the same reason: people search the names next to browser, and they are not browser games.
Questions people ask
| Is wowbrowse a WoW realm? | No. PCRisk describes it as a browser hijacker that redirects search to tailsearch.com. |
|---|---|
| Should I use my Battle.net password on Keldurn? | No. Keldurn says it never asks for that password. Use a separate login. |
| Will a browser realm stay online? | Treat it as temporary. Stormforge and Project Ascension both closed in 2026. |
| Is the browser version safer than an APK? | It avoids an unknown package. It still runs the site's code in the tab. Read the project domain before you create an account. |
